Pulsar, Altair and Delta Laser Systems

Nozzle Alignment Procedure

Set either Assist Gas AIR or CLEAN CUT to approximately .5kg/cm2, using the Manual Assist Select Switch and the corresponding Regulator. Watch the Digital Pressure Gauge on the Cutting Head to determine the Assist Gas Pressure. The Customer may not have Connected Air to the Assist Gas Connection Panel, so Nitrogen (N2) should be used. In the BEAM OUT Program set the G31 P to, P4 for N2 or 5 for AIR, the Power to S500, the Frequency to P150, the Duty to Q10 and the Time to R0.1.

With the Z axis Retracted and the SHUTTER ENABLE Key Switch at OFF, use a black felt tipped marker to color the Nozzle Tip. Once the Nozzle is colored apply a small piece of Masking Tape onto the Nozzle Tip. In MANUAL Mode, move the Z axis to less than one inch.

Run the BEAM OUT Program with the SHUTTER ENABLE Key Switch ON. This will pop a small hole in the tape. Turn the SHUTTER ENABLE Key Switch OFF. Raise the Z axis and carefully remove the tape from the Nozzle. An imprint of the Nozzle should be apparent on the tape with a small hole where the Aperture of the Nozzle is. See Figure 3.0.

Adjust the Brass Thumb Screws on the Cutting Head to Center the Nozzle around the Beam. Repeat the steps until the Nozzle is Centered around the Beam.

Nozzle Alignment Procedure

1.
Input the following nozzle alignment program.

    G90G92X72.Y60.Z11.8
    M100
    Z5
    N1G31P1Q1
    G24S200P500Q50
    G31P0
    M00
    GOTO1
    G50

2.
Confirm that the Axis Reference and Safety Device On lights are on.
3.
Turn the Mode Change switch to On, change to the Auto mode, and then return the Mode Change switch to Off.
4.
Place a sheet of .060 material under the cutting head.
5.
Turn the Laser Selection switch to CO2.
6.
Press the Start Button to execute the program. ( Check to ensure that the area around the machine is clear of people before pressing the Start button.
7.
When the machine is stopped by the M00 command , press the Stop button on the carriage and then turn the Laser Selection switch to HeNe.
8.
Inspect the direction in which the sparks flew on the material. The sparks fly uniformly in all directions when the nozzle is properly centered.
9.
To correct the position of the nozzle, open the right tool change door and adjust the position by using the four adjustment screws on the cutting head. Close the tool change door.
10.
Move the material to a new position under the cutting head.
11.
Reset the Stop button.
12.
Turn the Laser Selection switch to CO2.
13.
Repeat steps 6-11 until the nozzle is centered.
14.
Turn the Laser Selection switch to HeNe.

Nozzle Alignment Procedure

1.
Set the laser cutting system for the following cutting conditions:

•
Material Stainless Steel 12ga or higher

•
Laser Power 600 watts

•
Assist Gas Oxygen

•
Assist Gas Pressure 1.5kg

2.
Clear all Machine, Laser or NC Alarms
3.
Place the Mode Switch on the machine to manual.
4.
Place the Feedrate Override Switch on the Z-axis Assembly Control Panel to "M" (medium).
5.
Push the HeNe Laser button on the Z-Assembly Control Panel to enable the HeNe Laser.
6.
Position the sheet of the material on the work table under the Z-axis assembly.
7.
Push and hold the Z-Axis Down Arrow button on the Z-Axis Assembly Control Panel. This will cause the Z-Axis to lower towards the material surface.
8.
Continue to lower the Z-Axis until you are approximately 1 inch from the material surface.
9.
Place the Feedrate Override Switch on the Machine Control Panel to "L" (low).
10.
Continue to lower the Z-Axis by pushing and holding the Z-Axis Down Arrow button until the Cutting Head Assembly in on the surface of the material with enough pressure to slightly depress the free travel bearings on the bottom of the Cutting Head Assembly.
11.
Leaving the Z-Axis in position, place the Mode Switch on the Machine Control Panel to MDI.
12.
Input the Assist Gas "M" Code then "EOB" into the NC Control.
13.
Push the Insert Soft Key on the CRT.
14.
Push the Start button on the NC Control Panel.
15.
Place the Mode Switch on the Machine Control Panel to Laser Check.
16.
Confirm that there are no Machine, Laser or NC Alarms.
17.
The following buttons should be illuminated on the Machine control panel; Manual Control, Laser Select, and the "X+" and "Y+" Jog/Origin.
18.
Push the HeNe Laser button on the Z-Axis Assembly Control Panel to disable the HeNe Laser.
19.
Lift the protective cover to the Laser Out button on the Z-Axis Assembly Control Panel.
20.
At this time, you will push the Laser Out button on the Z-Axis Assembly Control Panel. USE EXTREME CAUTION, as the laser beam will be released when this button is pushed. Observe the direction of the splatter and move the Nozzle Alignment Screws accordingly. Move the material slightly and output the laser beam a second time, again observing the splatter. Continue the adjustment until you are able to obtain an even radial dispersement of the sparks. Remember to move the material each time you output the laser beam.
21.
When you have obtained an even radial dispersement of the sparks, close the protective cover to the Laser Out button.
22.
Place the Mode Switch on the Machine control panel to Retract.
23.
Push and hold the "Z+" Jog/Origin button on the Machine Control Panel until it illuminates.
